Nothing you have to chase. We read what you sent and come back to arrange a visit to the property, or ask one or two questions first if the scope is not clear enough to book from. What the free consultation covers
It is a site visit, not a sales call, and it carries no obligation. We measure the yard properly, because a plan drawn from a rough sketch changes on site, and we look at the grade and where water runs, what the ground will bear under footings, access for getting material in, and the things that decide a layout before taste does: the door you actually use, the late-afternoon sun, where the neighbours’ sightlines fall.
We also check the approvals your address needs rather than the ones a similar house needed. A deck attached to the house needs a City of Ottawa building permit once its walking surface is more than 600 millimetres above the adjacent grade, whatever its size; a freestanding deck needs one once it is both larger than 10 square metres and more than 600 millimetres up. Land near the Rideau, the Jock or the Carp can also sit inside a conservation authority regulated area, which is a separate permission on top of the City’s. Then we model the project in 3D and AutoCAD before a single board is cut. That is standard here, not an upgrade, and it is why a quote is written against a specific deck rather than a description of one. You approve the layout, board colour, railing and stair placement while changing any of it still costs nothing.
Where we build, and how far ahead to call
We work across the City of Ottawa and, since 2026-07-31, across the river in Gatineau. Every community on our list except Gatineau is inside Ottawa city limits, so one permit process covers them and none carries an out-of-area trip charge. Ottawa gives outdoor construction a short window. Footings want ground that is not frozen, finishes want temperatures the can will actually cure at, and the season runs from the spring thaw to freeze-up rather than across the year. Everyone books into the same months, so the backlog in June bears no resemblance to the backlog in March. Start the conversation a season before you want to be sitting on the deck, not the week you want it built. We will not print a lead time here, because it changes month to month and a stale number is worse than none. Ask when you call and we will give you the real date.
