Ottawa interlock

Interlock and stonework that ties the whole yard together.

Ottawa patios, walkways, interlock driveways, retaining walls and full landscaping in Techo-Bloc and Permacon stone. Engineered for our freeze-thaw winters, built to drain, settle evenly and look right for decades.

The layout

We build every interlock and stone system, and design the whole thing in 3D before a single board is cut.

Hardscaping and landscaping, planned as one design.

We design the grade, the drainage and the layout before we lay a single stone, so your patio, steps and walkways work together and stay level through Ottawa winters.

01

Patios and walkways

Techo-Bloc and Permacon pavers laid on a deep compacted base, with the slope designed in so meltwater runs away from the house instead of pooling at the door.

02

Driveways

Built on a thicker base than a patio needs, because it has to carry vehicle load. If a paver settles we lift it, correct the base and reset the same stone, so a repair does not leave a visible patch.

03

Retaining walls and steps

Engineered block walls that hold a grade and drain properly behind the face. That drainage is what prevents the bulging you see on walls built without it.

04

Landscaping and design

Front and back yard layouts drawn in 3D first, so stonework, planting and lighting are planned as one piece instead of added on year after year.

Engineered to last

Why our interlock stays level.

01

Excavate and grade

We set the slope so water drains away from the house.

02

Compacted base

A deep gravel base, compacted in lifts so nothing settles.

03

Bedding sand

A screeded setting bed for a dead-true surface.

04

Pavers and polymeric sand

Locked joints that resist weeds, ants and frost heave.

The Ottawa Decking difference

You see your interlock in 3D, before we build.

01

We design it in 3D. Your space modeled in 3D and AutoCAD, so you change it on screen, not after it is framed.

02

You approve the plan. A clear design and an honest price up front, no surprises once we start.

03

One crew builds it. Framed true and finished to stand up to the freeze and thaw, backed by a written workmanship warranty.

Good to know

Interlock questions, answered.

A properly built base is what keeps interlock stable through our freeze-thaw cycles, and that is where we focus. We excavate to the right depth and build the base up in compacted lifts so water drains and the ground moves evenly. When the foundation is done right, your patio, walkway or driveway stays flat and true season after season.

We dig out the area, then build the base up in thin compacted lifts rather than one loose layer, which is what gives the surface its strength. On top of that we screed a level bed of bedding sand and set each Techo-Bloc or Permacon unit into it. This layered approach is built for Ottawa soil and the freeze-thaw movement that comes with our winters.

Polymeric sand is a jointing sand that hardens once it is swept into the gaps and wetted, locking the pavers together. Because it sets firm, it helps keep the joints stable and discourages weeds and ants far better than plain sand. A stray seed can still land on the surface, but occasional sweeping and the odd top-up keeps the joints looking clean.

Sealing is optional. It can deepen the colour and make cleaning easier, but a well-built patio or walkway holds up without it. Day-to-day maintenance is light: sweep it, rinse it, and top up the polymeric sand from time to time. If a paver ever settles, individual units can be lifted and reset rather than replacing the whole surface.

Interlock flexes with our freeze-thaw ground instead of cracking like a poured slab, and single units can be lifted and reset if one ever settles. We walk through the full trade-offs in our interlock-versus-concrete guide so you can weigh both for your yard.

Yes. We build retaining walls and steps with Techo-Bloc and Permacon block, set on a compacted base with proper drainage so the wall holds back soil and handles our winters. Quality interlock and stonework is a long-term investment that holds up well when the base is built correctly. Every project comes with a written workmanship warranty, with the exact terms set out in your signed project agreement.
